Spotlight on: DUTCH Testing

If you are a woman struggling with fatigue, difficulty losing weight, PMS symptoms, mood swings, anxiety, depression, low libido, infertility, sleep difficulties, peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms...then the DUTCH test may help to solve the reasons for your symptoms. Men struggling with low libido, weight gain, hair loss, sleep issues, depression, or 'andropause', may also benefit from the DUTCH test.

'DUTCH' stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones, and is run through Precision Analytical out of the USA. It is by far, the most detailed, comprehensive hormone test out there, and for a reasonable price given the amount of information presented. Established patients can pick up a 'kit' at the clinic (about the size of a envelope) and take it home to collect your samples, then pop it in the mail. Payment for the testing is made to Dr. Jasper when you pick up your results or once Dr. Jasper has been billed (whichever comes first.) Results are sent to Dr. Jasper in about 2-3 weeks from when the test is sent out to the lab by the patient.

Precision Analytical offers amazing customer support! Click here to find detailed instructional videos on how to collect your specimen. When in doubt, you can also contact the lab's customer service by phone.

The DUTCH test can be used in women on HRT, using an IUD, or already on a supplement program for hormone balancing. This information should be provided by the patient in the forms contained with the kit.

Through this test you will be able to better understand your adrenal gland function (are you hypo- or hyper-functioning), your progesterone and estrogen balance (is it weighted one way or another), your androgen metabolism, your estrogen metabolism (how well the liver is processing estrogen), B12 deficiency, B6 deficiency, antioxidant insufficiency, glutathione insufficiency, and imbalances in neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, serotonin and melatonin.

The DUTCH Complete panel will look at the following parameters:

  • Total estrogen, total progesterone, total testosterone

  • Free cortisol pattern over the course of one day

  • Waking, morning, afternoon and nighttime cortisol

  • Waking, morning, afternoon and nighttime cortisone

  • 4 cortisol metabolites

  • DHEA-S

  • 2 progesterone metabolites

  • 10 estrogen metabolites

  • 8 androgen metabolites

  • 5-alpha-reductase activity

  • phase 1 estrogen metabolism in the liver

  • phase 2 estrogen metabolism in the liver (methylation)

  • nutritional organic acids: methylmalonate, xanthurenate, pyroglutamate

  • neurotransmitter metabolites: homovanillate, vanilmandelate, 5-hydroxyindolacetate, melatonin, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine

Precision Analytical offers other panels such as the DUTCH Plus and DUTCH Cycle Mapping. See their website or talk to Dr. Jasper for more information.

When we combine the data collected through the DUTCH test with a woman's symptoms and recent blood work, a treatment plan can be tailored to meet her individual hormonal balancing needs. This is a powerful tool in many aspects of women's health.

If you are interested, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with Dr. Jasper to see if you are a good candidate for DUTCH testing!
